A MESSAGE FROM
THE JCC CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & PRESIDENT
Dear Friends,
Tonight, we gather in celebration - of people, purpose, and the
power of what we’ve built together.
Eighteen years ago, we opened the doors to the Rockland Jewish
Community Campus, and while the building itself stood ready,
the real work - the heart and spirit of our community - was just
beginning. Guided by the belief that “Everything is Possible,” we
didn’t just create a place. We created a home.
Outdoors, we filled our campus with spaces that bring joy and
energy - two swimming pools, a splash pad, sports fields, adventure
ropes courses, and playgrounds. Indoors, we built classrooms for
our youngest learners at The Deborah Koenig Early Childhood
Center, the best in class Russin Fitness Center, welcoming spaces for
connection at the Chazen Center for Adult Life, and multi-use courts
for sports and pickleball at the Eisenkraft Gymnasium.
The true foundation has always been our people. Tonight, we
proudly honor nine extraordinary team members - Nancy Adler,
Barrie Austin, Donna Clark, Teresa Gonzalez, Elena Heydt, Marjorie
Kornblau, Terry Fiore Lavery, Stephanie Sirico, and Kathleen
Whitley. For 18 years, across fitness, membership, administration,
and fundraising, they have shown what it means to give their all -
with compassion, perseverance, and unwavering loyalty. Through
challenges and triumphs alike, they’ve stayed all in - helping this
JCC flourish and thrive.
As we enjoy this Casino Night, let’s take a moment to recognize that
the best hand we could ever be dealt is you - our members, friends,
and supporters - who make it possible for our mission to continue.
Thank you for standing with us, for celebrating with us, and for
helping us raise much-needed funds for financial assistance. With
gratitude to our founders and faith in one another, we look forward
to the next great milestone - because together, “Everything is
Possible.”

OUR MISSION
JCC Rockland is dedicated to the enrichment and
continuity of Jewish life and to the preservation and
celebration of our rich heritage. The center shall
strengthen individual awareness and connection to
the Jewish community, the state of Israel, and the
community at large through recreational, physical,
educational, social and cultural programs.

NANCY ADLER | Executive Assistant/Human Resources
Some of my favorite memories about JCC Rockland
were watching my three daughters make new
friends and explore their creativity in mommy
and me, gymnastics, music and cooking
classes at the old building on Route 45,
and seeing them blossom and develop
confidence on the basketball court in the
youth league here. I have also been able to
remain connected to my Judaism in ways that
I otherwise may not have by working at JCC
Rockland. As an employee, my favorite thing
about the JCC are all of the relationships I have
developed with my colleagues over the years and being
able to contribute in a positive way to our community.
OUR HONOREES
DONNA CLARK | Head Receptionist & Room Rental Coordinator
I’ve worked at the JCC for 25 years, so I have countless
wonderful memories. One of my earliest memories
goes back to when we were still on Route 45.
I used to sell challah at the reception desk
on Fridays for Shabbat. There would be a
mountain of them right in front of me on my
desk! Now, all these years later, I’m still at
the reception desk, and one of my greatest
joys is seeing my little friends run in, yell my
name, and give me hugs and kisses. There’s
no price that I can put on being able to greet
our members (little ones too) every day and
share those special moments with them. The bonds
I’ve formed here will truly last forever. On a personal note,
a memory that I will never forget is that I actually met my husband
at the JCC so my life here has really come full circle. It’s a story we
love sharing with our grandchildren about how their grandparents
first met at the JCC, in a spin class.
BARRIE AUSTIN | Fitness Instructor
In my many years here at the JCC, some
of my favorite memories are all rooted in
connection. From taking my daughters to
art classes back in the old building, to
coaching our dance team when Rockland
hosted the 2012 JCC Maccabi Games.
Those experiences remind me of how the
J brings our community together through
creativity, movement and shared values.
Developing the T’ai Chi program 19 years
ago has allowed me to share my passion,
while helping members find balance, strength
and mindfulness in a supportive, jewish-centered
environment. I’m proud to be part of a fitness team that truly cares,
creating a space where everyone feels encouraged, seen and safe.
THERESA GONZALEZ | Group Exercise Instructor/Pilates Coach
One of my favorite memories of the JCC is when
we were trying to get the class program off
the ground and we all had to work together
and we’re definitely a team that became a
family. The camaraderie is unbelievable
and one of the best that I’ve seen in the
fitness industry. The JCC has allowed me
to explore many different venues of fitness
and expand the Pilates program. The J
has allowed me to grow as a trainer and
instructor. The JCC is definitely a community,
a community that we need. It is a place that I’m
proud to call home—a place that needs to be
supported always.
TERRY FIORE LAVERY | Yoga Instructor
One of my favorite memories was
when I volunteered at a JCC event.
Everyone worked together to provide
a seamless experience for all.
We all danced at the end with the
attendees, and there was just a
general feeling of joy. I think there is
such a sense of community, and the
many classes, lectures, movies, book
talks, trips, etc, all contribute to this
end. It is so important to offer people a
place where they can socialize, exercise, and
learn, and I am grateful to be a small part of it.
OUR HONOREES
One of my favorite memories about the J was
long before I worked here, when my son’s
photo was in the Journal News in an article
about a Messy Play arts program he was
enrolled in when he was 2. It was also
great to watch my husband coach my kids
in sports, and watch them play with their
friends. I’ve loved watching the young
families coming into the “new” building for
games and practices through the years. It
makes me feel so good to see the people I
signed up in their 60’s thriving and enjoying the
center in their 80’s, and one of my favorite things about
working here is getting to work out and take classes with
them every morning before I start my day.

ELENA HEYDT | Director of Donor Relations
I have been working for the JCC for 30
years. I have seen my children, Sara and
Alex, grow up at the JCC and enjoy all
the programs the JCC has to offer.
One of the most memorable moments
for me was in December 2007. We
had the Grand Opening of our JCC
Rockland, and Rockland Jewish
Community Campus. It was a cold,
snowy day, with mountains of snow
on the ground. We had been planning
for this opening for months. Because
of the weather, we thought people would not
come. Ruby Josephs z”l, one of our Founders, climbed over
snowdrifts, to affix the Mezuzah over our front door. And guess
what? The community came out by the thousands! All day!
I stood on the second floor, and watched the outpouring of love
and support from our community. If you build it, they will come.
And indeed they did!

I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the
JCC’s yoga program’s growth since
its very beginning. Reflecting on
how far we’ve come fills me with
immense pride and joy. Sharing my
knowledge of yoga and watching my
students evolve has been my greatest
motivation throughout my 19 years
at the JCC. Having the opportunity to
bring that passion to the JCC and see
it flourish within our community has truly
been one of the most rewarding experiences
of my career.

I have so many great memories being
part of the JCC community for the past
18 years. I love how we are always
looking for ways to grow and provide
better experiences for our members. It
encourages me to consistently elevate
my skills as a trainer, teacher, coach and

In 18 years at its Campus in West Nyack, the JCC has become a community
home for thousands of people from infants in the Deborah Koenig Early
Childhood Center to older adults at the Chazen Center for Adult Life. We
are proud to honor the nine JCC Rockland staff for 18 + years of service to
the community.
